ABOUT THE AUTO REVIEW

The Auto Review was originally founded as a high-quality monthly automotive journal in St. Louis, Missouri in 1906. The Auto Review served as the official publication of the St. Louis Automobile Manufacturers and Dealers Association, now known as the Greater St. Louis Automotive Association. The Auto Review was, in fact, responsible for the formation of that organization. 

The Auto Review's first editor was Nelson T. Gutelius, who with Robert E. Lee was part owner. In 1908 the magazine was purchased by C.V. Anderson and P.P. Anderson, and Robert E. Lee (1867-1935) was made editor. Lee was also the managing director of the dealers association and the manager of all St. Louis auto shows from 1906 to 1932. 

The original Auto Review ceased publication in December 1923 but in 1988 Jim Schild reintroduced The Auto Review Magazine as a quarterly automotive publication in the St. Louis area, numbering the first new issue consecutively with the last one from 1923. The new publication also used the uniquely designed red logo on its cover. 

The new magazine ceased publication in 1990 but the Auto Review name and logo continue as the name of the new book publishing business that has since been responsible for 27 books and publications selling more than 100,000 copies worldwide. Books by The Auto Review and author Jim Schild cover the spectrum of automotive interests from the 1928-1931 Model A Ford and The Fleetwood Body Company to the Dodge & Plymouth Hemi Super Stocks of the 1960s. In addition to books published by The Auto Review, author Jim Schild has also written a number of successful books for Motorbooks International and these are also available from The Auto Review.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Jim Schild is the author of more than 27 books and publications and additionally has accomplished the fine color photography in six hardcover full-color Original Series books for Motorbooks International. In addition to writing and publishing books, Jim Schild is a member of numerous local and national automotive clubs and organizations and has served as vice-president and board member of the Society of Automotive Historians, technician and regional editor for the Cadillac LaSalle Club and is a Master Judge of the Classic Car Club of America. The Auto Review is also a member of the Specialty Equipment Marketing Association (SEMA).

Jim Schild was awarded the prestigious Maurice Hendry Award for excellence in journalistic contributions by the Cadillac & La Salle Club in 2012 and the Thomas McKean Memorial Cup by the Antique Automobile Club of America in 2013 for his work on Fleetwood. He has also won a number of Special Achievement Awards from the Classic Car Club of America and Golden Quill Awards from Old Cars Weekly.

Jim Schild also served almost thirty years in the U.S. Army in both active duty and reserve status and is a retired Lieutenant Colonel. He served in Vietnam as an airmobile combat platoon leader with the historic Seventh Cavalry. He also served on active duty during Operation Desert Storm as a Logistics Liaison Officer with Fifth U.S. Army Headquarters.
